Fly Swaps Can Put You On Top Of
Your Fly Tying Skills
Fly Assistant does a great job of tracking both
fly swaps you're in and fly swaps your hosting. As I do more fly swaps they
will be added to this page, so check back often. Click on the

If you have never participated in a Fly Swap this
is something you may consider. A lot of people will not even know
what a fly swap is or how to do one. It's pretty basic, a group of
fly tiers get together and decide they are all going to tie one
type of fly pattern. Let's say the choice is Mayfly no larger than
size 10. A fly swap host is in charge of exactly what pattern is
picked and when the flies should be finished.
Everyone in the group ties their Mayfly patterns,
and stays in touch with each other normally in a Fly Fishing
forum. When you finish your Mayfly patterns you send them to the
host. When all tiers in the group, normally about 12, get their
flies to the host he takes 1 from each tier and puts it in their
fly box.
So what you send in is 12 (normally 1 or 2 fro the
host extra, so 14) Mayfly's that you tied. What you get back is 12
different Mayfly patterns tied by people across the country, or
world! As you see other peoples Mayfly's you get ideas and the
next set you tie will get better and better. Check you some of the
flies and see what you think.
